A crumb for those trying to get SSHFS working with Debian Etch

In the middle of setting up my shiny new dedicated host for serving the growing toastboy empire, I realised it would be really handy to have a transparent filesystem link between the old server (a Debian Etch VM).

Now, here’s a good howto about sshfs on Debian, but for me, it didn’t quite work. When I got to the point of trying a modprobe fuse, I got the error FATAL: Module fuse not found.. So after a bit of thrashing about I realised that the missing link was this: you need to do depmod -a before modprobe fuse will work, and then everything behaves as expected.

Well, finally the migration to WordPress is done. It’s been a long while between importing the posts from my own home-grown CMS and getting the rest of the work done to move things over. There’s still a few things on the WordPress version that aren’t as good in some ways, but the whole point about moving to something like WordPress is safety in numbers: somebody, somewhere has written a plugin or a howto page to address nearly every need.

The theme isn’t quite right yet, but it’s close enough for rock and roll.

Another big hole in the blog. Ho hum. It started as the Grand Kitchen Remodelling Hiatus, but that ceased to be an excuse some time in June, I think. Just put it down to Other Stuff.

Anyway, all’s well with the world, Forest are top of the league etc. etc.

Footy Itch

It’s weird not playing footy for the second Tuesday in a row. Instead I’ve been mucking about with the site and the picker script.

By popular request, it now picks based on the last 5 games of each player rather than their all-time average. Amongst other things, this probably means that it will be possible to balance the ages of the two sides more evenly, given there’ll usually be several possible choices of teams with the exact same averages.

The game and player pages have been rewritten and I think they look much better – certainly the game page packs in much more information.

No Blog For a While

Well, of course it’s been Christmas, and it’s been fun. My gifts, I hope, were well received, and I got some great ones. Several hundred minutes of West Wing and Spooks and Early Doors on DVD, quality smelly and footy-related goodness!

But it’s been a few days since the break, so why no blog since then? Two words. New toy.
